Trails closed when muddy. Open from dawn until dusk. No night riding allowed. No hunting allowed.
Overview
The new parking area has changed things. Start at the 10 Mile parking area. You should not park at the lot on Kies St. You now start with 1/2 of the
Green Loop to access all the trails.
The Blue loop is the widest and flattest, great for beginners. When you are ready to add distance and challenge add in the Orange and/or
Green Loop. Intermediate riders can handle the distance of all the loops with the
Yellow Loop having the largest climb. The
Black Loop adds a bit more technical challenge though there is nothing here to be afraid of. A couple of trail options add a some minor technical features. The
Red Loop is a blast! Turn it up and fly on those downhills! Great stuff. Let go of the brakes and fly! There are no surprises. Huge grins all around.
This trail is really well marked with maps at all the intersections. A really well done, well marked, and well-designed trail system. Obviously, a lot of effort and resources have went into this trail system.
Need to Know
New parking area for Mountain Bikes is off 10 Mile Road. Please use this one.
The City of Rockford is 2 miles away and has great food at Marinades Pizza, Grill 111, Corner Bar and craft beer at Rockford Brewing Co.
Description
Luton Park is a multi-use trail system. Please yield to hikers and trail runners. There is a total of 9 miles of trail utilizing a stacked loop system with flatter beginner trails (the Blue and
Green Loop) and tighter, hillier advanced trails that include logs and rocks gardens (the Yellow, Orange, Red and
Black Loop).
To cover all the loops and trails, make all right turns at intersections except when exiting the
Black Loop. The end of the
Black Loop takes you in a circle. Small optional routes may have you making left turns in a few places. The area incorporates pines, meadows, hardwoods, marshes and three bridge crossings over Rum Creek.
Please avoid this trail after heavy rain due to the high clay content and low marsh areas near Rum Creek. Luton Park is closed to night riding since all Kent County Parks are only open from dawn to dusk. The good news is that this area is closed to hunting but open to bikes and hiking all year long.
