Overview
Although the elevation profile clearly shows an extended descent from the 2.5 mile mark to the 7 mile mark, you'll swear that you have climbed nearly the whole way until the 9 mile mark. Bring ample water and snacks as you'll appreciate them on this great endurance burner.
With the exception of a few moderate drops (which mostly have ride arounds) the terrain isn't overly technical but filled with a constant stream of rocky obstacles.
You have a feel of remoteness on this ride and are provided with numerous outstanding view points.
Description
Railroad Pass Loop covers in their entirety
Earnie's,
Caesar and rides along Mother for a distance.
The trailhead is at the parking lot of the Railroad Pass Casino and you'll ride briefly on the paved River Mountain Loop Trail. Immediately after crossing the railroad tracks, turn right into the desert. The trail is not at all obvious to find at this point until you ride ~20 feet. Once you find
Earnie's, the singletrack is easy to follow for the duration.
You'll climb gradually over, around and through a lot of embedded rock and small washes for the first mile and a half following a mile of steeper climbing to a saddle overlooking the golf course in the valley below. From here you'll finish
Earnie's to Mother. This section of Mother is full of excellent rough hills and valleys along sometimes narrow exposed singletrack to the intersection of
Caesar.
Finally at
Caesar you'll enjoy some of the first real downhill riding. But don't get too excited as this is a bit of work to navigate the twisty, loose, rocky terrain.
Heading back toward
Earnie's you'll steer right back down
Earnie's to your vehicle.
