Description
Lakeview Loop starts in a white-red pine forest, rolls gently down till the forest changes to hardwoods in a small meadow, then turns to skirt a huge beaver pond with great views to the west. It then climbs gently up from the pond, crosses the ski trail, skirts a red pine plantation, recrosses the ski trail, then turns on a point overlooking the beaver pond again. Note the huge beaver mansion to the west through the trees. After the intersection with
Porcupine Loop to the left, the trail passes through the Cathedral Pines, turns and follows a small ridge for a super fun gentle descent, winds up and down a rockier section in a ironwood glade, only to pop out into a big abandoned farm field with distant views of Lake Superior (hence the name).
At the bottom of the field,
Bridges Loop joins to the left. Taking Lakeview to the right brings us through a mix of trees and fields to the intersection with
McGunn Creek Loop. Taking Lakeview to the right again climbs you back up through fields and forest, then a quick drop for a short time along McGunn Creek, then up again, through the woods and right through the middle of a very cool abandoned stone foundation before continuing the gentle climb back to the start.
