Overview
This is an excellent ride for any rider looking to advance their skill set. There's a short steep section, a few technical obstacles on the climbs, and a fast and flowy downhill with some tight switchbacks.
Description
This ride combines five shorter singletrack sections (Toads Wild Ride, Sherwood Forest, Space Mountain and
Rosewood) into a figure 8.
Space Mountain and the
Rosewood descent are the main attractions of the ride. Space Mountain starts with a short steep climb, then settles into a gradual climb with several sharp switchbacks. The trail is in good shape, but has a lot of sharp rocks embedded in it and some occasional ruts.
At the top of Space Mountain there is a bench that's good for a quick breather before starting a traverse which has a great view of the city below. At the end of the traverse if a steep downhill section with two sharp switchbacks, just before the trail crosses a private road. From here there is a gradual, then steeper climb, to where the trail forks to the left. (To the right is a very short connector to the top of the
Rosewood Trail right and down, and left to the picnic table where one can really enjoy the view of Newbury Park below.
It's a wonderful ride that will reward with a little bit of everything.
