Description

This trail begins at the base of the basalt hill and winds down along an escarpment overlooking the Bowl area. Tread is uniformly fine to coarse silt which must turn to cake frosting after a rain.

Partway down is a lone picnic table under a shade structure, a feature of the El Cerro de Los Lunas Preserve. This marks the beginning of an interesting badlands section. Just beyond the picnic table the trail is so steep that wooden steps have been installed.

This is a very high erosion area and riders are encouraged to minimize impact by walking their bike, etc.

Once through this steep section the trail rolls across some arroyos in sweeping turns.
