Description

This trail accesses the Four Hills network from a convenient parking spot on Old Route 66. It includes a section of sandy arroyo that is a good workout.

Park at the pull-off, cross the Jersey barriers, and head downhill. At this point you'll experience something unusual for central new Mexico: fording an actual stream with authentic flowing water, at least part of the year.

Head uphill following a doubletrack. At 0.6 miles from the parking spot, turn left and go down into an arroyo. Head up this sandy wash.

At 0.9 miles bear left and go across to and then up a more eastern branch of the arroyo. GPS will help in this complex area because the other branches of the arroyo all end in steep trenches.

The correct arroyo branch intersects Four Hills Main Loop.
