Description

This is the east portion of Trail 100 and generally the easiest portion of the trail. This is a multi-use trail so be careful of hikers and horses.

You can start either from the main parking lot for the North Phoenix Mountain Preserve (the entrance at Hwy 51 and Northern) and head east or a small lot located off of Tatum Blvd. (near E. Tomahawk Trail) and head west.

Heading west from Tatum, you'll ride between houses on a narrow trail that takes you towards the preserve. Once you are out of the housing area you'll start to climb a rocky trail until you reach the 40th Street access trail. From there you'll experience some short climbs and descents with some fun arroyos to cross. Again, be careful of oncoming traffic, many of these arroyos have blind corners so look before you leap.

One last climb and descent will take you to the parking lot off of Hwy 51. You can continue the ride to the Central portion of Trail 100 by using the highway underpass or return back on the same trail.
