Fish Run Trail starts at the main parking lot of the Wolf Rock trailhead. The first section of trail was built by LHORBA. There is a fun mix of challenging rock gardens and flowy singletrack until the trail makes a left at a T and follows an old service road. This section has grown into a smooth singletrack.
A few hundred yards before Linn Run Road, the trail will make a 90 degree right and twist and turn until it meets up with the original part of Fish Run. There is a bailout point here on your left where Hickory Flats Rd meets Linn Run Rd. To take the bailout would be a mistake since you would miss arguably the best trail at Laurel Mt. This original section of Fish Run is level to downhill for about 1 3/4 miles. The narrow singletrack follows a scenic stream, the namesake of the trail, through rock gardens and gradual twists and turns on less technical sections.
You'll pass
Hobblebush Trail on your right before continuing the descent to Linn Run Rd. Please be very cautious on the short drop onto Linn Run Rd. The trail is very washed out, loose and steep and there may be cars traveling the road.
When you hit Linn Run Rd. you have the choice of making a left on the road to return to the Wolf Run parking lot to access Picnic Trail or
Wolf Rocks Trail or, for a longer ride, cross the road and continue on Fish Run Trail.
At the road crossing, another leg of the trail continues downhill along the far side of the road. This leg is the remains of the PW&S logging railroad, but is not ridden because it simply dead ends ahead. The trail to Grove Run stays to the left as a sweeping uphill curve which originally served as a runaway train ramp during those logging days prior to the Park. A couple other small spurs drop off to the right along the climb but these are not ridden either.
If you continue on the Fish Run Trail, be prepared for technical rock gardens on a much less traveled trail. The trail will eventually end at a T on
Grove Run Trail. A left on Grove Run, a left on Quarry Rd, a left on Weaver Rd and a left on Hickory Flats road will lead you back to Linn Run Rd. just below the Wolf Rocks parking lot. The other option is to stay on Grove Run to Linn Run Campground.
