Description
The V8 trail is a short technical loop which starts and ends at the Parish Hill parking lot off of Walter Road across from St Paul Lutheran church. It's a good way to add some extra miles if you're riding the
Golf Course Trail. It has fast descents and come climbing with a lot of good bench cutting and rooty areas. There are a few logs to roll over. It is called the V8 trail because there used to be an old V8 engine at the trailhead, which was hauled away for scrap a few years ago. The trail was installed by Rob Loeher and Trail Pittsburgh.
Access the trail from the back of the parking lot near the woods. You'll see a brown ribbon of trail across the grass next to a playground. The trail is marked with green blazes on trees. If you follow this all the way around it will dump you out onto Walter Road next to the Roosevelt Shelter.
You can cross the street at this point and go up the fire road to the right of the church to connect with the Golf Course Back Nine Trail.
Many people park at the
JC Stone Field (Lake Shore Drive) or the Boathouse (Pierce Mill Road) and then climb up Walter Road to access the V8 Trail. It is a good to ride this when riding the
Golf Course Trail.
