Description
Slack's is one of the most popular trails at Sherando, and with good reason. This trail rides well in either direction. But ridden from west to east (Torry Ridge to Whiterock Gap), this trail flows about 80% downhill.
From
Torry Ridge Trail, Slack's follows an old-school bench cut for approximately 0.6 miles. With plenty of rocks and off-camber roots to navigate. Accounting for the narrow tread of the trail, as well as the aforementioned rock and roots, this is the slowest and most technical of the three downhill sections of Slack's. The trail then turns uphill for a punchy, but relatively smooth ascent. Almost immediately upon cresting the ridge, the trail turns back downhill for a wide-open, very fast but short descent. Following the grin-inducing downhill, the trail mellows out for a bit allowing you time to collect yourself for the final, epic downhill. The final section of Slack's is a raw, fall-line descent that will please the best of riders. Expect plenty of large rocks, optional lines, and a steep grade that cant help but be ridden fast.
Be on the lookout for hikers as this trail gets a lot of use from both parkway and lake visitors.
