Description
This is the eastern side of the old Telephone Loop, which is designated as an all-season trail, as well as a cross-country ski trail in winter. With
Telephone Loop (West) it forms an approx 17km loop from the trailhead. It's mostly doubletrack although it does narrow at some points. It's an easy trail with nothing very technical and no major climbs; just lots of short ups and downs.
The Eastern side of the loop was upgraded in 2014 and again in 2015 to fix drainage problems and to improve the ability of the trail to dry faster. There is now a ride-over cattle guard at the grazing allotment boundary, so there is no more stopping to open/close gates.
The entire Telephone Loop is designated as a winter multi-user trail. The Eastern side is groomed by GBCTA volunteers with a single XC ski track on one side of the tread and packed smooth for fat bikes on the other half of the tread.
The northern half of the trail is useful for reconnecting
Disconnect to the end of
Long Distance (2.6km). The southern half of the trail provides an easier alternative route between the trailhead and
Long Distance or
Disconnect. You'll pass through intersections with the
Snowshoe Hare and Hostel snowshoeing and ski loops.
