The northern end of this trail is very steep, and is an alternative way to climb the ridge instead of using Cholla. Once at the top, the dirt road stays on the ridge, occasionally climbing a steep slope. There are a few places that offer breath-taking views of the ocean. The first is a little over a mile from the start on the right, at a wide spot on the trail. The other is at the very end of the trail, a place famously known as "Top of the World".

There are four downhill trail entrances to the left along the way: Cholla, Lynx, Rock-It, and Mathis (with access to Car Wreck).
