Overview
This is a great ride that links several USFS roads (some gated) with the
Redtop Mountain Trail. An uphill grind rewards with a tight, steep, and often technical downhill.
Need to Know
Bring your bear spray and make lots of noise!
Description
From the Stein's parking lot in Troy turn right onto HWY 2. Go 10.7 miles then turn right onto Yaak River Road. Go 15.6 miles. Turn left and park at the Redtop Creek Campground.
From the Redtop Creek Campground, ride your bike back down to the Yaak River Road. Turn left onto the Yaak River Road. Ride on the Yaak River Road for 0.4 miles then turn left onto FR 5977.
After riding uphill for about 5 miles, there will be a gate on the left. Take the gated road on the left and ride the road/trail for another 1.2 miles. Look for singletrack trail on the left. The
Redtop Mountain Trail will drop downhill quickly. The first 30 feet of the singletrack are a little sketchy!
The downhill singletrack calls for sitting way back on your seat. It's a sweet steep downhill that is rather technical with unavoidable rocks. There are two small creek crossings towards the bottom of the trail.
