Description
Shock Hill follows a perimeter nordic skiing trail in the Breckenridge Nordic Ski Center. There are several other trails in the area that are excellent for family outings.
Begin at the Breckenridge Nordic Center off of Ski Hill Road. Ride northeast on the
Penn Lode trail to a four-way intersection with Shock Hill trail and Troll Forest. Take a right, descend to and cross a Nordic skier bridge and continue counter-clockwise around the Nordic center. Just east of the skier bridge, there is a short, switchbacking connector trail descending to
Pence Miller ditch trail which can be used as a connector to town.
After 3/4 mile on the trail, there is an intersection with the
Pence Miller trail on the right. In another 1/4 mile, the trail splits uphill and downhill. Either direction is an option. The uphill tops out at an excellent overlook of the Cucumber Preserve. The downhill option descends over a few, fun rollers to an historic cabin. The divergent trails rejoin just south of the cabin.
Shock Hill trail ends in another 1/4 mile at a three-way junction with the
Gold Digger and
Toad Alley trails. Turn on
Gold Digger to return to the Nordic center, or
Toad Alley to continue to the
Peaks Trail.
