Overview
Pony up for a gondola ticket... or grind up 3,200' to the top of Bald Mountain to reach the start of this ride.
Description
From the top of chairlift, follow nice skinny singletrack on
Broadway Saddle Trail as it contours around the back side of Bald Mountain. You immediately feel like you have left civilization and are high up in an alpine world of your own, with the ski area and town far behind you. Enjoy flowing trail and wildflowers until you come to the intersection of
Warm Springs Trail and
Cold Springs Trail.
Turn right on
Warm Springs Trail and enjoy beautiful sections of burned trees that open to many amazing vistas. The trail is mostly smooth and fast, with a few rocky sections but nothing severe. It feels really, really long because it is! You'll flow along this trail like nothing else - it descends consistently, but not too quickly, and it's easy to stay in control while ripping through the trees.
After about 5 miles on
Warm Springs Trail, you'll come to the
Traverse Trail. Take it (
Warm Springs Trail continues on to the left and is an option if you don't want to climb the
Traverse Trail), and grind uphill on a dirt road through the ski area for 2 miles. Keep an eye out on the right for the
River Run Trail.
Follow
River Run Trail through MANY switchbacks as it slowly makes its way down the mountain. There are only a couple small rocky sections; most of the trail is heavily wooded and the surface is nice compacted dirt. Be careful of hikers and people climbing up the trail - there are many blind corners and you can go quite fast on the descent.
