Section Of

Description

Note: This segment is mapped from the point where the Colorado Trail leaves Monarch Crest Trail to keep things clean on the map. The two trails overlap to the north.

Once you leave the Monarch Crest Trail, things start to get interesting. It opens up with great views but there are a lot of baby heads and the climbs are long. Eventually you'll make it to the very top but unfortunately there are so many trees there isn't much of a view to be had from the trail.

The next descent is steep and looks like a river bed with a lot of erosion. There are a lot of loose rocks ranging from baseball to soccer ball size. Most of it is rideable if you feel comfortable with technical descents and you have a dropper post.

Allthough you're pretty much staying steady for the next section in elevation, it's a battle. It's not super technical, but the rocks are just big enough to hamper your speed and drain your energy.

Eventually you'll break out into some clearings and the long climb to Sargent's Mesa is probably the easiest part (minus the beginning). It also has some nice views and cows.
