Description
New riders will love the
Canyon Trail at Placerita Canyon. The trail is 2 miles long and climbs just over 400 feet from start to finish. There is nothing technical and the average grade is low (around 3-4%). This is great for first time riders to get a feel for riding on the dirt, some climbing, and descending without any intimidating or sketchy sections. Plus, most of the trail is shaded and there's even a bubbling tar pit at the top of the longest climb to check out if you need a break.
This trail was closed to mountain bikers for almost two years but was re-opened to cyclist in 2013 after some additions were made to slow riders down. These additions are fences that force riders to do an S-turn to get through them, and there are lots of them. If you are an advanced rider this may be frustrating. That said, if you're an advanced rider there are many other trails in the area that would suit you much better. However, this is a nice option to stay off the road for a few miles after finishing
Los Pinetos.
There a plenty of hikers out and about, especially on weekends. Be careful and keep your speed in check so they don't close this one down again.
