Do not ride when wet!!! Closed December through May
Description
The Skills Park is part of the North Park Freeride Area, which also contains the Dr J Freeride Trail. NPFR is unlike any other public biking area within in a 100 mile radius as it offers freeriding. NPFR is designed for beginner and intermediate riders. There are expert dirt jumps in the Skills Park.
The Skills Park was built to help beginner freeriders increase their skill levels to be able to ride the Dr J Trail. The Skills Park offers four short trails with features of progressive difficulty for beginners to "session" and refine skills. There is a line with drops, a line with skinnies, a beginner jump line and an expert jump line. All lines flow to the bottom of the Skills Area and where there is a return trail to get to the top.
The NPFR Area is located next to Sharon Shelter (Pie Traynor Field Area), near North Park Pool. You can park at Pie Traynor Field or loop around South Ridge Drive an park along the road adjacent to the Skills Park.
Note: The Freeride Trail and the Skills Park are closed from Decemeber until April or May to repair Spring thaw damage and permit mud to dry out. Please do not ride the NPFR during these months it causes damage to the muddy features. Check the Trail Pittsburgh website and our Facbook group in the Spring for opening date information. We also post workday information to the Trail Pittsburgh website and our Facbook group, Pittsburgh Freeride.
