This trail has some unique characteristics. It draws a meandering line through the transition zone between high desert terrain and pine forests. The climb is one of the most challenging in the park working its way up switchbacks through a field of sagebrush and boulders, then finally topping out in a pine forest. Be sure to study the trail on your way up and take note of the various obstacles as you contemplate the effects of cartwheeling through the Boulder field on your way down should you let gravity overcome your better judgment.
