This 4.5 mile long intermediate trail begins at the Fire Tower Trail, descends to Knuckles Creek, and then climbs the mountain on the east side of the creek up to Kapark Road Trail.

The west side of the Knucklehead trail is superb machine built flow trail winding down to Knuckles Creek. The trail continues downstream along Knuckles Creek eventually crossing and (Eastern section) climbing slowly up to the Kapark Road Trail - FR 1410 on an old doubletrack.

A loop back to the Fire Tower can be completed by turning left on FR 1410 and following it to Cave Mountain Road - turn left again to return to the Knuckles Creek Trailhead or the Fire Tower Loop Trail.

The Knucklehead Trail connects to the Fire Tower Trail and (if exited heading down Knuckles Creek by turning left at Signpost 26), to the Azalea Falls Trail.
