Description

UPDATE: Be aware that back when, this trail was well maintained but lately the crew hasn't done much so you might be better off climbing Little Purgatory Trail as an out-and-back ride, unless you seek a very technical torture climb.

Start from the bottom of Grapevine Wash & quickly join the creek as the trail cuts through the rock of East Reef. Shortly after entering the narrow sandstone slot, about 200 feet from the trailhead on the left side, about 10 feet up, there are petroglyphs on the sandstone.

Then, in about 1/3 of a mile, you'll do several creek crossings & at mile 2, you'll hit the toughest part of the climb as the pitch gets steeper & a little more technical. Although the trail has a gradual climb, there are 2 very steep sections.
