The Overlook Loop Trail is a short loop around the top of the northern bluff. It passes through the scenic overlook area for the Mississippi River and Lock and Dam 14. A short section of wide trail is shared with the hike-only overlook stairway trail just west of the overlook area.

There are a few fun descents and short climbs along this section with a few tight squeezes in between. Stop at the overlook and check out the great views of the river valley. If you can time it right, sunsets are particularly good here.

The current overlook area used to be an old ski slope with a tow rope to the top. Remnants of the tow rope structures can still be found to the north side of the overlook.
