Description

The Summit Lake Trail starts just before Cracker Saddle and can be accessed from the Elkhorn Crest trail or by riding up FS-7301. If you are on the Elkhorn Crest trail and hit the dirt road, then you have gone too far. From the start of the trail, you'll head towards Summit Lake.

The trail contours from Cracker Saddle out to Summit Lake and is a very easy grade with a smattering of rocks to keep you on your toes. After taking a nice break at the lake to take in the view, the trail will descend very sharply at first and you may need to hike-a-bike for a short while until the trail gets a little easier. Now the trail will remain challenging all the way down the road and there is not much break on the technical features you'll need to negotiate. The trail ends with a crossing of the North Fork Powder River. This trail can be combined with the Elkhorn Crest trail to make a large loop.
