Snow in the winter months. There are some downed trees and the trail can get washed out in some places.
Description
If chundery, off camber, overgrown pedal fests are what you seek, this trail has them all!
Start from either the Rocky Rest Campground or Goodyears bar, depending on whether you'd like to bike up- or down-river, respectively.
Riding up-river:: as you enter the Rocky Rest Campground, head straight towards the river and you'll see a large parking area near the restroom just past the camp host. Park here and ride up and over the bridge that crosses the Yuba. Turn left on the trail and continue following it as in winds uphill. The pedaling will just continue in this direction so find a nice steady rhythm and meander on through the rocky, chunder-y, loose terrain and stay focused on the uphill side of the off-camber trail. There's some minor exposure on some of the more deeper and rocky trail cuts, but nothing an intermediate rider can't handle. As it winds its way over creek tributaries and in and out of the trees, there'll be plenty of mixed terrain to keep things interesting, with minor bouts of downhill followed by more ups.
Overall, you'll likely encounter a few downed trees as well as minor bouts of overhanging growth, but as you near mile 6.5 this gets pretty bad- with dense thorny blackberry, thistles and poison oak fully blocking the trail. Bring a machete along or hope that someone else has been kind enough to clear this section, otherwise it's going to hurt getting through it all.
Riding down-river: Although the elevation profile seems to suggest this is mostly downhill, it's quite deceiving and be prepared for lots of pedaling with quite a few steeper switch backing sections. You'll also encounter that overgrown section noted above pretty quickly into the start of your ride.
