Description
Starting on the South end of Comanche, you have two trailheads to pick from: the Mesquite campground parking (has a restroom) or the Park Road trailhead. Most people will ride from
Comanche Trail Mid and finish with this section or will connect using another trail.
From
Comanche Trail Mid, you turn left onto
Rock Garden Trail for a short distance before turning right onto Comanche Trail South. It is a reprieve from the Mid trail with quite a bit of contour riding and just a handful of short punchy climbs. Once you leave the
Rock Garden Trail, Comanche takes on a different feel and you can finally let loose a little and have some fun. It's all fun, but the south stretch is way more playful than the Mid. You'll notice that the ups are accompanied by longer downs and eventually you'll be starting the bottom of the canyon in the face on several exposed switchbacks. Use your brakes and get your weight over your back wheel. No skidding.
From the Park road or Mesquite Campground, the trail has a nice gentle flow but don't let that fool you, it's about to go up. Straight up. It's a leg breaker with some sections that might need to be walked do to loose dirt and gravel. Stick with it because it is worth a little hike-a-bike. It is rideable.
There are a few punchy climbs that give way to some incredible contour riding and you'll be glad you stuck with this trail, and then you get to
Rock Garden Trail up, down or continue onto
Comanche Trail Mid. Take a left on
Rock Garden Trail for a short way until you see the Comanche Trail sign.
