Up until a couple years ago, there was Upper Paper Route and Lower Paper Route which combined to make a loop. I guess there was confusion, so they did some re-naming. There is no longer Upper and Lower. What used to be "Upper" is now called
Manzanita. What used to be "Lower" is simply Paper Route (as described here) - Note: A short section of the old "Lower Paper Route" between
Downtown Trail and the kiosk where
Big Ring starts is now called
Gopher Trail. Sounds confusing, but if you grab a trail map, it all makes sense.
With that being said, Paper Route traverses from
Downtown Trail on the Main Lodge side of the bike park, across Lincoln Mountain and then climbs up a series of switchbacks where it terminates at the intersection of
Skid Marks and
Manzanita (formerly Upper Paper Route, as noted above). Parts of this trail have been used over the years for all sorts of XC races, and for good reason. It is fast and has a great mix of ups, downs, bermed turns, swishing in and out of trees and across ski trails. It rides equally fantastic in either direction.
You can loop it with
Manzanita or combine it with other intersecting trails -
Lakes Trail,
Juniper, Timber Ridge, etc. Check out the Mammoth Lakes Big Friggin Loop to combine it with some other great trails for a huge loop.
