Description

The Salt Creek Loop Trail connects the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area (WNRA) to the BLM Swasey Recreation Area trails. Best done as a loop from the Oak Knoll Trailhead via Princess Ditch Trail to Mule Mountain Pass then returning on the Mule Ridge Trail. Alternatively, starting from the Swasey Areas Meiners Loop Trailhead or Wintu Trailheads, climb The Escalator and descend into WNRA where you can add many of the WNRA loop trails (e.g. Buck Hollow, Shasta Mine, etc) and then climb back to the Swasey Area.

Warning, the eastern arm from Buck Hollow to the connection back to itself mostly follows the creek bottom and is very loose, rocky and difficult to keep inertia. Its best to skip this arm of the loop altogether and use the trail as an out and back on the western arm that goes from Mule Town/Princess Ditch Trail to Mule Mountain Pass.

For more information, check out the BLM site, or the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area site.
