Description
Ride up the trail to the west out of the parking lot. Go left at the kiosk and ride for a couple hundred feet. Hang another left at the Blue Sky Trail sign and climb the singletrack that circles to the west of the campground. At 0.2 miles, you'll leave the trees and come out at the upper end of the campground. Continue to your right up a short rocky climb onto an old 2 track and begin to climb.
Pass through the gate at 0.42 miles to the intersection with the Witches Canyon roads at 0.6 miles. Turn right and head into the Wagon Tracks parking lot. Continue through the parking lot onto the rocky trail. At 0.72 miles, ride to the right at the A sign. You'll climb on and off a slight ridge until you drop into a drainage that goes through the Wagon Tracks area. At 0.9 miles, the trail makes a hard right and climbs an unrideable rocky section. The trail can be ridden again at the top of the climb as you turn west.
At the 1 mile mark, you'll meet up with the Penitente Canyon hiking trail on your right. Continue west for another .15 miles where the trail connects with the Hidden Treasure Trail. The Blue Sky Trail makes a hard right to the northwest. The terrain is similar to what youve been riding with smooth singletrack and several sections of technical rocky sections. Be aware of a big drop at mile 1.6. You can ride around this obstacle by taking a hard right as you approach the drop. At mile 1.75 you'll come upon the Rock Garden hiking trail. Proceed to your right and continue to the east for 0.1 miles.
At this point you'll take a hard left and go north as the Rock Garden Trail goes to the south. The section of smooth singletrack and rocky section continue. You'll ride into a drainage that gradually goes downhill allowing you to pick up speed. At 2.2 miles the
Iglesia de San Juan trailhead will be on your left. Your speedy descent come to an abrupt end at mile 2.28 where you'll power up short slick rock and climb to the top of the ridge overlooking Penitente Canyon at 2.38 miles. The drop into the canyon is over after .25 miles of a steep, technical rocky sections and youre back at the climbing area parking lot.
