Description
Dave's Loop is the official name for what is known as "The Rim" and "Dave's Ditch". Dave's Loop is part of the "Brushy Creek Singletrack Trails", maintained by the Austin Ridge Riders BCB Crew and managed by Williamson County Parks and Rec.
These are the westernmost trails in the area with the The Rim trailhead starting just west of the access road from Avery Ranch by Rutledge Elementary. Look for the brown kiosk along the
Brushy Creek Regional Trail, follow the trail up about 100 yards and take a right to ride The Rim section.
The Rim section leads up a gradual climb with multiple large g-outs as you ride alongside a cliff edge - be very cautious, especially when wet. You'll reach a "T" intersection; a left will take you to the top of Dave's Ditch section, Dave's is a creek run that is unlike anything in Texas.
You start with high canyon walls as you descend the smooth waterfalls, then it's a typical scree creek bed to the end. Near the end, you can take the right and ride this section of The Rim back to the "T" intersection or you can continue to the
Brushy Creek Regional Trail.
At the "T," as you come up The Rim, a right and another right will continue The Rim trail. Similar to the previous portion, you ride along a cliff edge and encounter a couple of challenging g-outs, finally reaching the bottom of Dave's Ditch. Typically a rider will go right here and exit the trail to the
Brushy Creek Regional Trail.
