Description

This trail follows and old mining route up towards the Custer Lookout. The trail stays in heavy tree cover along the creek as it climbs at a very moderate pace. You might get your feet wet early in the year, but you won't cross anything too deep.

When you hit the meadow at mile 3.2 you'll likely want to turn onto Ramey-Five Mile Trail instead of continuing on the Five Mile Creek Trail if you are going to the Custer Lookout. The trail since it gets really steep as you climb to the Peach-Cinnabar Trail, and the Ramey-Five Mile Trail is a bit more mellow.

If your goal is the Peach-Cinnabar Trail then be prepared for some steep climbing as you near the ridgeline. This area has a lot of history and some great camp spots, but it is still very remote so be prepared when you venture away from the old mining towns.
