Dogs Off-leash
Need to Know
This is an OHV trail and not mountain bike friendly. It is a favorite trail for dirt bikers. This trail could possibly be ridden on a EMTB, but the danger is the route drops riders into a creek, that they then have to turn and ride up the creek back to the ridge. On a MTB this is not possible, it's essentially hiking a bike up a creek for miles. Personally I think this trail should be removed from MTBProject as it may encourage mountain bikers to explore it and get into a dangerous situation. Or at least it should be marked as a OHV trail that suitable for MTBs. I believe this trail is managed by the Elmore County Forest Service and I can get a map of it to show it OHV status if needed.
Description
The Gardiner Peak Trail is mainly used by mountain bikers to connect
Mahalo to the Boise Ridge Road. This section is a very moderate climb and the trail is easy and only has a couple of routes. The rest of the trail is a lot less friendly to mountain bikers. From the Ridge Road to the junction with
Mahalo you'll see the most traffic; once you pass the intersection with
Mahalo the trail gets more rugged.
There is a steep up near the peak that you'll probably need to walk and then after that you have a fun downhill. It is recommended to turn left onto
Clear Creek Summit Trail as opposed to descending into Dagget Creek. There is no sign at the junction so please consult the map.
Beyond the
Clear Creek Summit Trail junction, the trail drops steeply into Dagget Creek. The descent is very challenging, and once you get into the creek, you'll have a lot of creek riding. There has been talk of re-routing the Dagget Creek section of this trail, but it has not happened yet.
