Description
This trail is a fun downhill section through a trench and grassy pasture along the hillside above El Porvenir. The first half of the trail follows the bottom of a 6 ft deep, earthen trench, which functions as a cattle fence; it looks like a canal but it is not. A lightly trodden path runs through the trench with a few bumpy spots but is smooth enough to gather some speed. The difficulty is mostly being restricted within the trench, which provides a unique experience. Beware of bones.
About half way down, there is an opportunity to exit the trench to ride the grassy swale on the slope just above the trench. The swale is formed by spoils from the trench piled along the lip of the trench. There are lots of grassy knobs to huck or places to use the lip like a berm. The grassy area is about 10 ft wide and provides a "choose your own adventure" feel as you zip along between grassy clumps and over chunks of earth.
This is a fun route, but really more of a bonus run or warm up for the longer routes in the area until the system at El Provenir can get built up. Getting there is kind of an adventure, which will likely involve hiking. Take the road to the Rodeo and go uphill.
