First part of the trail is an easy ride/hike.
Overview
A beautiful ride that parallels Clear Creek as it makes its way up the mountain. Enjoy a deceptively easy start on doubletrack and pavement that gives way to singletrack and more technical rock gardens.
Description
This trail can be accessed at several points. However, for a "full" ride, the beginning of the trail can be accessed at the Buffalo City Park. From the parking area, ride out on the
Greenbelt Trail doubletrack. This section of the trail is deceptively easy. Follow the trail up the mountain until you reach the Veterans Home.
Take
Veterans' Lane (on the right) out of the Veterans Home until you nearly reach the highway. Before the highway, turn left onto
Highway 16 Bike Path that runs parallel to the road. Follow this path up the mountain until you reach Clear Creek Trailhead on the left.
Continue on the
Old Power Plant Loop singletrack trail from this trailhead as it generally runs parallel to both the highway and Clear Creek. The trail will become progressively more technical and there are several intermediate rock gardens in this section.
Stop and take a few pictures of the old power station before following the
William J. Mentock Trail to the Mosier Gulch campground. From here, enjoy the ride back to Buffalo as it is nearly all downhill.
