Description

Helvetia Road access (middle): You can drive up 341 (Helvetia Rd) and park along the arroyo. The next ride south is AZ Trail - Fish Canyon Rd. to Helvetia Rd. The trail that you can ride to the north is AZT - Passage 7 - Las Cienegas.

This portion of the longer trail features the usual hill country amid white grass, low trees in spots, ocotillos and the occasional barrel cactus. The tread is good, with enough short rocky sections to add technical interest. Many of the switchbacks and v-turns into arroyos are rideable which gives the ride both variety and continuity. There are only two gates to open and close, plus the one at the north USFS boundary. In general, this portion will be downhill if you're riding from south to north, though there will be some rollers to keep your heart rate up.

Don't let the downhill grade fool you. There is a lot of climbing as well. Bring plenty of water and food and be in good shape
