The Post Canyon Recreation Area is a multi-use trail network formed of Hood River County property and a patchwork of State Park, USDA Forest Service, and private land. The area is also an ongoing tree farm operation, so be aware of potential closures. Expect traffic in both directions, and yield to hikers and equestrian riders.

Description

This trail is a primary route from Family Man to trails higher up Post Canyon. It's also the final climbing segment of the Post Canyon Hot Lap loop. It consists of three distinct segments:

Lower 8 Track: Starts across Riordan Hill Road from Family Man. This segment is fast and flowing, with almost no climbing. It's an easy trail for kids and beginners, and a short loop can be made back to Family Man by taking a right on Trail 106 at the end of this first segment.

Middle 8 Track: Continue left at the junction with Trail 106 to start this segment. The first part is fast and level along an old logging road. An abrupt, steep right turn leads you to a section full of twists and turns, with more roots than the previous portions. You'll climb up to a junction with The Boot (150L).

If you're not in a hurry, take a spin around this fun little loop which will bring you right back to this junction. Continuing on 8 Track, you'll climb up to another old logging road. You can bail here by going right which will bring you to the top of Grand Prix (158), or take a left and travel along the old road bed for about 700 feet to start the next segment.

Upper 8 Track: This segment is a burner with a steady climb up a series of switchbacks. Don't be fooled by a couple of downhill sections... you'll be climbing again soon enough. Once you come out to Riordan Hill Road, you'll have a couple options. Continue straight across the road and climb the short but ridiculously steep Hybrid Connector to gain access to Hybrid (140) which leads to the upper Post Canyon trail network. Or take a sharp right to fly down Bad Motor Scooter (158). Or look to your left, and you'll see the fun little Extended Play trails.
