Need to Know
Hikers and the occasional equestrian use these trails, so please be courteous of other users. There is also a bunch of buried and unburied glass near the parking lot on top of the Mesa.
Description
The Krabbe Mountain Bike Trails form several loops at the core of the Sunset Mesa Trail system, conveniently located in a city park, right above the Montrose Water Sports Park on the Uncompahgre River.
This is the central part of the Sunset Mesa trail system. These are singletrack flowy trails with good views of town and the distant landscapes. Take a quick dip in the river if it's hot. As of early 2016, there are about 7 miles of trail total.
The suggested starting and ending point is the parking lot on top of Sunset Mesa, just south of a few radio antennas. From this point, there are singletrack trails in every direction. Follow the Carsonite signs, which will help to navigate.
The trails here are generally suitable for intermediate riders, with a narrow tread and rock obstacles here and there. Easier trails can be found down by the river.
History & Background
The City of Montrose installed these trails in 2015. More trails are planned for 2016.
