Description
Meneka Peak lies just south of Signal Knob at the northern end of the Massanutten range. The white-blazed Meneka Peak Trail is a short, yet challenging, trail with some hard rock moves and fast downhill sections. Most often it is ridden from north to south (as shown), connecting Signal Knob with the Bear Wallow descent as part of the
Signal Knob - Meneka Peak - Bear Wallow Loop.
From Signal Knob, head south at the signed trail intersection climbing upwards toward Meneka Peak. After an initial rock-free climb, you'll reach "the wall," a steep rocky section that few have ever ridden.
The trail will mellow out for a few hundred yards before another slightly less steep, yet challenging, uphill section before finally leveling out near the Meneka Peak summit. There is small pull-off on the left side to overlook the valley, but for the most part the peak is completely tree covered.
After a short flat segment at the peak, the trail will continue down to the saddle intersection with the blue-blazed
Tuscarora - Bear Wallow Trail #405.2. The descent is completely rideable but very rough in spots. Be sure to have tubeless tires (or lots of air pressure) to prevent pinch flats!
