Description

After stopping by the campground and making a small donation, backtrack to pick up the posted mountain bike trail entrance. There is a small parking area if you don't have a campsite that is near the trailhead.

Starting out counter-clockwise, the trail is a nice flowing singletrack maintained by the forest service through a classic northwest Florida long leaf pine forest. After a mile or so, there will be a couple of dirt road crossings before reaching the top of the hill on the back side of the lake.

The trail then follows an old grassy lane which turns into slight downhill singletrack section. Eventually, it will lead to a gravel doubletrack river-crossing. Depending on the amount of rain, the crossing may have some flowing water to navigate. Once across the river, the doubletrack will climb sharply. At the top, look to the left for the singletrack back to the parking.

This details the type of terrain throughout Bear Lake Loop. Plenty of shade is offered. Some incline and downhill, but mostly flat. Bathrooms are available at the campground.

The bog area. Just to the left of this, water and mud covered the trail. Easy to get around.

The twisted pine tree not too far from the bog area. The tree will be on the left. You'll pass it up if you're not looking for it. Especially if you're trying to pick up speed on the flat terrain.

There are benches along the trail. The trail offers quite a bit of shade throughout and is very well maintained. Also, towards the end there is a small bridge that goes over a creek. Overall, nice trail. Very easy terrain.

Some side trails and forest roads to explore as well and some lead to the lake. Great ride; had to go through a creek at one point which cooled me off 8mi — 3h 00m
