From late December through early April this trail tends to get very wet and muddy and should only be ridden if it is frozen.

Description

Horse Trough splits off of Bench Trail just after the entrance. It generally parallels Bench Trail but instead of descending, stays more level and then climbs a bit before crossing Riverview Extension Trail. This section starts out tight and twisty along a ridge that used to form a small pond. At the midpoint of the trail there is an old concrete Horse Trough on the downhill side of the trail. From here, the trail gets less tight and twisty and eventually ends in a clear cut area before joining Lower Riverview Trail. You can continue riding down Lower Riverview Trail trail to access Concrete Block and Homeless Camp.

The trail is not very technical but is twisting and narrow in places. It can be ridden either direction.

Singletrack zig zags between the trees on an off-camber, rooty section next to the fairway. Can be slick at times.

Crossing Golf Course pond outflow creek. Beautiful bridge built by volunteer singletrack stewards and donations from Trail Pittsburgh. Railings are canted out to prevent handlebar overlap. Photo looks towards Riverview Extension Trail.

The exit of the trail is a quick turn uphill which can be overgrown with hercules club (thorny stalks which grow into trees) if not maintained regularly.
