Description
This trail, located east of Lakeview, Oregon in the Warner Mountains, is 36 miles long. It connects to the Fremont National Recreation Trail #160 on the north end and the California border on the south end. The route is best tackled from south to north.
The northern end of the route from Crane Mountain to the South Fork Crooked Creek trailhead is non-motorized use only. The southern eight miles of the route is open to motorized use (motorcycles and ATVs only).
Throughout the route, the Crane Mountain NRT offers many scenic overlooks of the Goose Lake Valley, especially at its high point on Crane Mountain. At 8,347 feet above sea level, it's the highest point in Lake County.
To the west, you might get a view of Mount Shasta, which is visible from most of the southern portions of this trail. Panoramic views to the east of the high desert with its interesting rock formations and vast lake basins will also add to the experience.
Overall, the route is easy to moderate pedaling. Some sections of the trail, particularly the north face of Crane Mountain, may not be snow free until July.
