Description
This segment of the
Iron Mountain Trail (IMT) is an out-and-back from the trail town of Damascus VA, to Skulls Gap.
The start of the ride is a grunt. Be ready for a four-mile climb with only one quick rest. After that, you'll be treated to undulating terrain along the ridge over singletrack through dense forest. The tread is rocky, making it a bit on the technical side.
About 11 miles into the route, you'll do a quick descent into an old Appalachian Trail shelter. This is a good place to stop for a snack or turn around for Skulls Gap.
The ride is a hoot once you turn around and head back to Damascus, especially the last four miles into town.
