Description
The Trail Creek Trail begins at mile six of Wickersham Creek. It passes Lee's Cabin and then continues along a forested ridgeline for the next four miles. The route then climbs steadily for a couple of miles before a quick descent into a saddle. From there, the route heads uphill again and enters an old burn area.
If you're stopping at Moose Creek Cabin, this is a good place to collect firewood. From here, the route descends for a bit before breaking out into a large open meadow. Beware - this area is usually very wind blown, and the trail can be obscured by drifting snow. The
Moose Creek Trail junction is 1.25 miles down the trail and the Moose Creek Cabin is another 0.25 miles beyond, at the eastern end of the meadow.
From the Moose Creek Cabin, the trail climbs to its highest point, then follows the ridge north, paralleling Trail Creek. From the high point, the trail climbs and descends gently for the next 9.5 miles to the Crowberry Cabin.
From there, the route continues along a forested ridge until it breaks out of the trees into a large, open meadow and then descends into Beaver Creek. It follows the creek for a short section before climbing back into the trees. The trail then goes northeast through a mix of old burn area and open spruce forests before heading northward, through an intersection with McKay Creek.
The final part of the trail parallels the western side of O'Brien Creek northward to the Cache Mountain Loop.
