Description
Part of the Hampstead Conservation system of trails, Cemetery Trail is one of the best sections of trail in this area. The trail is generally fast and flowy with some loamy corners and a few sketchy/techy sections (depending on your speed).
Starting from the south, you'll get a little more climbing than you would the other way, so technically this could be considered the 'uphill' direction. Follow
Old Country Lane from West Road, and after some mellow climbing on doubletrack, you'll see the Cemetery Trail to your right. After a fun entry with a little DH and some small, techy rock gardens, you'll start meandering up again.
At about the halfway point, the trail runs into another doubletrack trail. Here you want to make sure you stay left and keep heading north. Keep on the lookout to the right, because shortly thereafter (maybe .1 mile, if that), you'll see the re-entry to the right, which again heads down a short DH before climbing again.
If you'd like to visit the cemetery itself, keep a lookout on the right again for a not-very-used trail that will take you there. Otherwise, stay left and finish the climb, which reconnects with
Old Country Lane. The other direction is just as fun (if not more so, depending on if you prefer a little more climbing or a little more DH), but there is climbing/DH both ways. Enjoy!
