Description
Park along the road or at a parking area just across the road from the trailhead. There is a sign at the trailhead for this trail which heads to Tamarack Lakes.
The trail begins as a wide and rocky singletrack. This is the least fun part of the trail because it is so rocky. It eventually narrows into a typical width singletrack as it climbs above Sardine Lake.
After passing Lower Sardine Lake on your left, the first junction comes as you approach Upper Sardine Lake down to your left. Keep right to continue climbing to the ridge. The trail to the left is
Upper Sardine Lake Overlook and dead-ends at a view of the lake and some mining remnants. Be forewarned, the climb from here up to the ridge is very steep and may require getting off and pushing.
From the ridge, there is a really nice section of singletrack down to a jeep road. Follow this jeep road a short distance to intersect the jeep road to Tamarack Lakes. Take a left and Tamarack Lakes will be immediately in front of you. This is a nice spot to relax and eat.
From here, you can continue up the
Sierra Buttes Trail (12E06) to the ridge, or ride back down the singletrack, or make a loop by going down the Tamarack Lakes jeep road to the paved Packer Lake Rd, taking a right, and cruising back to the car.
