Description

Emerald Canyon is a steep fire road running south from Bommer Ridge to the bottom of Old Emerald. At the intersection of Old Emerald, Emerald Canyon narrows from fire road to fun, flowy singletrack that dead ends at the locked gate for the Emerald Bay private residential area. Unless you have a key to the gate, this an out-and-back.

Recommended route is to descend Old Emerald or Emerald Falls, then take Emerald Canyon back up to Bommer. Occasionally riders will attempt to climb up Old Emerald or Emerald Falls, but this is not recommended as both are predominantly downhill trails with fast moving downhill traffic and many blind corners.

Emerald Canyon is a green from a perspective of technical difficulty. From a fitness / climbing perspective, it is a difficult climb and could be categorized as blue or black based on the steep grade and a couple of punchy climbs. During some parts of the year, the narrow singletrack on the southern section of the trail can become quite overgrown, adding to the challenge of traveling both directions.

Didn't realize this dead ended. Oh well. Nice climb back up/out. Love the singletrack and low traffic.
