Description
The Main Loop Trail is a doubletrack trail that will take you throughout the lower parts of the Middle Raccoon River Valley. Some of the climbs are fairly steep and can get overgrown later in the year with tall grasses. The Main Loop is very helpful in making additional options for connecting the singletrack trails, and there is a 1.3-mile section of doubletrack that you'll need to ride in order to access
Sunrise Trail.
The main parking for this trail is located at the River Campground. Pay at the self-pay station and hop on this loop or use it to connect singletrack segments.
When using Main Loop Trail to get to
Sunrise Trail you pass the
805 Spur used to connect to
Long Creek Trail and
Riverside Trail. You'll then follow the two-track up and down some short-but-steep climbs. When you cross over the box culvert, you'll climb steeply up another hill. Once you crest the hill, you should see
Sunrise Trail, which will take you right into the trees for some singletrack goodness.
From
Sunrise Trail, Main Loop Trail turns to crusher fines and takes you near 141 and then travels in parallel direction along N56. The trail then crosses N56 and turns back into dirt two-track. From this point on, it is fairly flat with a few rolling hills and then back down along the river back to the River Campground parking lot.
