Description

This is a continuation of the southern portion of the trail and leads to a beautiful overlook rock that George Washington wrote about:

"Ride with Mrs. Washington and others to the Cacapehon Mountain, to see the prospect from thence." George Washington — August 19, 1769

George Washington often rode here when visiting Berkley Springs to soak in the natural springs.

The unique rock formations may be reached by a 12-mile fire road and flat hiking trail along the crest of Cacapon Mountain accessed from Cacapon State Park. Though the trail is fairly flat/rolling at the start, a moderate descent at the end can be a challenge for beginners, and the climb back to the trailhead can be strenuous, so be prepared!
