Overview
This is an advanced ride located in the heart of Waitsfield, a small town in the Mad River Valley. Created by the Mad River Riders, the oldest, largest and only bike club in the Mad River Valley, this expert loop is part of the Camel’s Hump Forest trail network and incorporates seven different trails, including
Revolution, Dana Hill Rd (a class IV road not recommended for driving),
Clinic,
GS ,
Enchanted Forest,
Cyclone Connector and
Cyclone. These trails run from intermediate to expert with the majority of them being a part of the latter.
Description
Start on
Revolution, one of the loop’s intermediate trails. It offers a wider trail and smoother ride with several bermed switchbacks and great flow up to Dana Hill Road. Shortly before the end of the trail, there will be a left-hand turn to pop you onto Dana Hill Road where you'll see the entrance to
Evolution across the road.
Climb
Evolution for more flow and bermed switchbacks. Make sure to stay straight when the trail crosses
Cyclone to descend to Dana Hill Road again. Climb Dana Hill for about 1/4 of a mile and look for the entrance to
Clinic on the left marked by a white blaze.
Clinic is a technical playground full of rocks, roots, twists, turns, and stream crossings. Stay right after the double stream crossing and then make a right onto
GS to climb back to Dana Hill. Ride Dana Hill down about 300 feet to
Enchanted Forest (on the left), an intermediate, flowy, and fun route.
Off of
Enchanted Forest take a right onto
Cyclone Connector, which is also an intermediate trail with a couple of stream crossings. Take a left onto
Cyclone a few feet above the Dana Hill Road intersection.
Cyclone is a narrow singletrack full of twists and turns, ups and downs, a long bridge, an extremely technical terrain of rocks, roots, rock faces, logs rolls and berms joined by a steep descent back to Dana Hill and
Revolution. Head back down
Revolution and enjoy the super fast, fun, flowy descent.
Just remember the descent on
Revolution, and the wood-fired pizza and local craft beers waiting at American Flatbread at the ride’s finish line make it all worth it.
