Description
The Donner Pass Trail #926 is on USFS land and can be accessed from Buckhorn Road in Buckhorn Canyon or can also be accessed further up the trail from either Greer Road or Ballard Road. Both Greer and Ballard roads are Forest Service roads and 4WD vehicles may be required.
The trail terminates on Buckhorn Road just west of the ranger station. There is a large parking/camping area a few more yards west of where the trail ends on the road.
The southern terminus of this trail is at Donner Pass. This trail intersects near the midpoint of the
Lookout Mountain Trail #934 at Donner Pass. Some of the signs along the way up refer to this as "Danner" pass. You can continue south past Donner Pass on this trail towards Glen Haven, following the Donner Pass Trail #926 - Miller Fork Segment.
The trail is mapped here as a descent but riding it in either direction is permitted and doable. Be advised, however, that riding up this trail is very difficult. The trail is littered with large rocks, both planted and loose, and the steep grades combined with high altitude make for a very challenging climb.
Many areas of the trail are chopped up and/or eroded. In particular, the stretch between Greer Road and Ballard Road is very tough. I consider that stretch to be double-black diamond in difficulty.
Motorcycles are permitted on this trail, so keep an eye out for them.
