This entire trail is made up of a well-developed dirt road, climbing nearly 2,000 vertical feet to the town of Truchas.

The vegetation along the way changes from sparse juniper and piñon pine to relatively dense ponderosa pine forest. The trail is nearly 100% climbing, with several short downhills along the way. The trail can be shuttled from Truchas as well, which makes for a long, fun descent.

There are a few stream crossings to watch out for. When the trail forks, be sure to keep right.
